Movie Review: Fruitvale Station

I hate the subway.
I live in NYC and I hate the subway.
This movie is pretty much based in a subway.
Well at least when the big, bad and important stuff is happening it's in a subway.
This does not make me feel better about the subway.
I hate the subway.
I live in NYC and I hate the subway.

Well ladies and gentleman, if any of you have been keeping track, this is my 100th movie review!!!
It's a pretty big post for me today and so far it has not been going well!
I saw this movie last Wednesday.
I never got to actually writing the review except for 2 days ago when I started to write it.
I was close to finishing it but I never actually wrote the whole thing.
Today I came back onto the computer to finish my review and it wasn't there!
I had to start from scratch!
But I guess that's sort of a good thing, because 2 days ago when I was writing this review I didn't even realize that it was my 100th.
Well now I know and I am proud of myself!
So as long as people keep on reading my reviews and enjoying them I will keep on writing them.
This is not the end of my saga.
Trust me that it's not.
I will keep on doing these for much longer until I just get tired of movies and never want to see one ever again.
Let's hope that's not the case.
So the plot in this movie is that this young guy is trying to get his life back in order after dealing with bad crowds and drugs and that stuff.
He has a girlfriend and a 6 year old daughter and it's his mothers birthday.
Anyhow, it's New Years Eve and he wants to go into the city to celebrate with some friends.
He takes the subway.
Bad stuff happens on the subway.
And now we have our film!
So what was good in the movie?
First of all the acting in the movie was great!
Michael Jordan did a phenomenal job and I think that this might be the start to a bigger career for him.
Octavia Spencer also did an amazing job to me.
I thought that she played the role of the mother so well.
I thought that the movie was never to proud of itself.
I thought that the director, Ryan Coogler, knew that this was his first movie and he wanted to make it a good movie but not so over dramatic. (Place Beyond the Pines.)
The writing was also really great.
The movie seemed realistic to me and it helped me connect more to it.
Also I thought that it was just the right length.
I thought that if it were any longer than it might have dragged or been much much more boring.
(I'm not saying it was boring though.)
The time line through out the story I thought was amazing.
I don't know if all of it was true, but if it was than that's just a shame.
A lot of stuff happens in this movie and I 'm not sure why it was in there, but since it's a true story for all I know I guess I can see al little why things are put in there.
So what wasn't so great?
I thought that the movie was as spectacular as the reviews it has been getting.
I thought the execution of the big thing that happens in this movie was just OK.
Crazy things are going on and it's hard to see what's happening.
Also I just think that the acting dropped in that moment.
Also the movie left a lot of questions for me.
For example why the whole thing happened in the first place.
My biggest question though was why a fight broke out.
I didn't understand it.
Sort of SPOILER ALERT.
And some people got away from the police which makes me wonder how the movie knew that they were involved at all.
This also happened in Bling Ring when the sister was involved yet never got caught.
If she never got caught than how did the movie know she was involved.
END OF SORT OF SPOILER.
So all in all, the movie was a pretty great directorial debut but I think that that is the only reason it's getting amazing reviews.
If someone much more famous directed it it would've been a good movie and not a great one.
But it's still a pretty great movie to see for your 100th movie review.
I won't stop reviewing.

Movie Review: We're the Millers

So the plan is to make a fake family and travel across the Mexican border get some drugs and bring them back to the states.
Full proof right?

Rating: R
Time: 110 min
Director: Rawson Marshall Thurber
Stars: Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis

I always have trouble writing the beginning of my blog posts.
If there's not a fun story about before I saw the movie than I have trouble finding out what I want to write.
Like for this movie, it was a rainy day and this seemed like the best movie with a reasonable time.
There's no fun story.
The truth is that I only make the beginning of these reviews to make the review longer.
If the review is longer than I felt like I have succeeded more.
It makes me feel more sophisticated!
So instead of writing something really long I will end my beginning nonsense here and see how long my real review is.
Even the beginning remark is shorter than usual.
Anyhow the review starts... NOW!
So the plot in the movie is that Sudeikis is forced by Ed Helms to get some drugs from Mexico and smuggle them back into the United States.
To do this he makes a fake family complete with himself, a stripper, a virgin and a runaway.
In the mix of the family road-trip, other stuff happens and yeah!
We have our movie.
So what was good?
First of all the jokes in this movie are funny.
I will not embarrassed to admit that I did laugh out loud multiple times.
Also I loved the characters.
I thought that they were each very unique and funny in their own way.
All of them a little bit weird but in the end they all have pretty good chemistry with each other.
Also something that really surprised me in the movie was Nick Offerman's family.
In the trailer, they seemed like the worst part of the whole movie.
In the real movie they were one of the funniest and best parts.
Especially Offerman himself.
But to tell you the truth the whole movie is just a bunch of jokes.
So there's pretty much nothing else that I can say besides the movie was funny.
If the movie was funny and it got money I think that it succeeded its goal.
Sure the movie has flaws which I will mention next, but the only good thing that I can truly say about it is that it was funny.
The performances were also great but in the end all of the things I say will lead up to the movie being funny.
Jennifer Aniston did a really good job as her stripper part.
She was great and most of all FUNNY.
See what I'm getting at here.
So what wasn't good.
The movie was funny so it succeeded.
But also in moments when it wasn't funny it was just too ridiculous or too stupid or too annoying.
A lot of things were put into the movie just to make it longer and funnier.
Some succeeded, and some did not.
For example there's a boyfriend of some kind at the end of the movie.
I thought he did his role well and that he was funny.
He succeeded.
But then there's this Mexican drug lord named Pablo.
His role was never that funny.
He did not succeed which in result made the movie worse.
There are many other examples like the dirty cop and this fake baby named LeBron.
Some worked some didn't.
In the end the movie was funny but it had many unnecessary moments and things that most of the time didn't result well.
The movie was ok.
This is the End is still the funniest movie of the year.
You don't need to see this film.
Score= 6.0

Movie Review: Elysium

Neill Blomkamp returns back to the big screen for the second time to bring you the highly anticipated Elysium.
I MISSED YOU NEILL!!!!!!!!
DO MORE MOVIES!!!!
YOU'RE GOOD AT IT!!!!!

Rating: R
Time: 109 min
Director: Neill Blomkamp
Stars: Matt Damon, Jodie Foster

So I start walking to the theater to go see Elysium.
I'm going to go see it with about 4 other people.
I'm really excited to see it, they're just bored and want to something instead of lazying around.
At the end of the movie we all come out of the theater.
I ask the four other people, "So how would you rate this movie from 1-10?"
Person 1: It was ok, I'd give it a 6.
Person 2: I'd give it a 7 but I don't think it's deserving the ratings it's getting from critics.
Person 3: I'd also give it a 6, the beginning was boring.
Person 4: I loved it! I'd give it somewhere around an 8.
Me: Thank God! Someone actually agrees with me about this movie! I'd give it a 9ish.
Person 4: Yeah! It was so much better than District 9!
Me: WHAT!
(We got into this argument about which is better.)
Anyhow, in the end the lesson this little story was supposed to teach is that always agree with the people you see movies with or you will fight all the way until you get to home.
And that District 9 is better than Elysium.
So the plot in this movie is that Matt Damon is sick and he needs to go to Elysium to get healed.
So he gets this robotic skeleton and tries to travel to Elysium.
Elysium does not like uninvited visitors.
So what was good in the movie?
First of all the action was amazing!
All of the fighting and weapons and sequences were so awesome to watch.
They made you feel like you were right there in the film.
Also the special effects were amazing.
They all looked so realistic and awesome.
It didn't at all seem like Elysium was just computer generated.
The acting was great too.
Everyone did an amazing job but the person that I loved the most in the movie-
The man who was great in not only this movie but also in District 9 was Sharlto Copley.
He is so good in this movie!
The way he acts and talks just sucks you right into his character and his story.
Matt Damon and Jodie Foster are also both very good in the movie, but they weren't the ones to steal the spotlight.
The end of the movie was also very good.
It was emotionally sad but happy at the same time.
The characters are all also very unique and awesome in their own way.
The story is very exciting and also very unique.
The way the story is executed is done so well and it's just great.
The movies amazing.
To tell you the truth, I am writing this blog post just after seeing We're the Millers and even though I saw We're the Millers not even one day ago, I can't stop thinking about this film.
It sticks with you and it's just so AWESOME.
So what wasn't good?
Not much.
Although one thing I had a problem with was that I think that in some moments of the movie, I think that the characters took the easy way out.
There really wasn't another way to get out of the situation though, which makes me think that they should've changed a little of the script to make the situation a little less... cheap.
Other than that I can't say much.
The only other thing I had a problem with was how the character Frey was interpreted as.
There was something about her that I just wasn't into.
So all in all, the movie was amazing!
Neill Blomkamp should do many more movies in the future.
And even though District 9 was way better, this movie was a close second.
Score= 9.0

Movie Review: The Way Way Back

Me and this movie, we go way back.
Like way-way back.
I have just realized that the title of the movie doesn't mean any of the things I just said.
Awkward...
Not really though.

Rating: PG-13
Time: 103 min
Director(s): Nat Faxon, Jim Rash
Stars: Steve Carell, Toni Collette

Let me tell you how me and this movie go way back.
Even though what I first said wasn't what the title implies I will still tell my story because it is pretty extraordinary.
So let's start when the trailer comes out.
I see the trailer- the movie looks fine.
I go to Spain for the summer thinking that it win't be a big loss if I skip the movie.
For Spain I always bring a lot of movies to keep me occupied there.
One day I just happened to choose Little Miss Sunshine.
AMAZING!!
I see the trailer for The Way Way Back again.
"From the studios that made Little Miss Sunshine..."
OMG, I want to see this movie, it's going to be-
AMAZING!!
My mom calls.
"Hey I just saw The Way Way Back, and it was-"
AMAZING!!
One Month Later
I walk out of the theater just have seeing The Way Way Back.
I think you know what happens next.
It was...
Ok.
JK!!!
It was-
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now let's get to the review!
The plot of the movie was that this kid has to go to his mom's boyfriends summer house for summer.
The boyfriend (Carell) is a total D***bag by the way and the kid doesn't really fit in the neighborhood.
So the only place he feels good in is WATER WIZZ!!!!
So what was good?
First of all I really liked the characters.
They were all just so fun and unique in they're own way and awesome.
Also I really liked the story.
I thought it was just a fantastic timeline that was fun and sad and AMAZING at every corner.
And this movie has the perfect combination of drama and comedy.
Each one was never used to much or too little.
They fit together perfectly.
And the acting was really great too.
I felt like everyone was really giving a great performance.
So what wasn't good?
The only thing that I have to say I didn't like was that some characters I felt were underused.
I felt like they could have had a bigger impact on the movie but they just- you know- didn't.
Other than that the only thing I was kind of annoyed with was that at the end of the movie I wanted to know what was next.
It left me satisfied but I wanted more.
But never mind that because if it were longer it would be worse.
It's complicated.
Never mind it.
ANYHOW, all in all the movie was a perfect combination of drama and comedy.
It's enjoyable for everyone and once you see it you'll be glad you did.
SEE IT!

Movie Review: The Wolverine

After one entire month in a country, with movies that came out months ago in America I am back.
And once I sat butt into that theater I felt...
ALIVE AGAIN.

Rating: PG-13
Time: 126 min
Director: James Mangold
Stars: Hugh Jackman, Tao Okamoto

I am terrible.
I had been in NY for about a week and had not seen a movie.
I bet I wasn't even going to see this one, but it was the last showing in the theater near me so two other people were convinced and saw the movie with me.
To tell you the truth though, if I had other choices of movies to watch I wouldn't have chosen this one.
But my theater only has one movie at a time so I don't really have a choice unless I drove far away to go to a theater with more choices.
But I still wanted to see this movie and I still wanted to see a movie in general.
By the way, when movies that came out in July that I missed come out on DVD, I will rent them and I will review them.
Because I like movies and I like to review them.
So enough with the boring stuff that I always talk about in the beginning of reviews and let's just get right to it!
I'm a little rusty but let's get right to it!
So the plot in this movie is that many years ago the Wolverine saved some guy and now in the present, that guy wants to take away the Wolverine's immortality and give it to himself because he knows how to do it and he's old and wants to live longer.
Stuff happens and also there's this thing going on with the old mans grand daughter and Wolverine has to save himself and other people and WAZAM!
We have our typical superhero movie that's based in Japan.
So what was good in this movie?
First of all this is like the millionth movie that Hugh Jackman plays the Wolverine in so of course he's got the character down and obviously kills it.
He's also just a good actor in general.
But not just him I think that all the people in the movie pretty much did they're role really well.
My favorite character was the red headed chick.
She was so AWESOME!
Whenever she was on screen it was just a joy to watch her.
And of course the action was great.
All of that kung fu movements were really awesome.
The jokes were fine.
They made you chuckle but they were clever too.
Also the end of the movie was great.
I don't mean the end of the movie really, what I mean is that there's this clip after the credits and it's pretty awesome.
The movie was also very cool with the setting.
I liked the places they went and especially the colors and moods of the scene they were in.
So yeah...
So what wasn't good.
Personally even though the acting was good, I did not like most of the characters.
The villains were terrible and not fun to watch.
The Viper Lady was so cartoony and I hated her throughout the whole movie.
I wasn't that into her character.
I also hated this archer guy in the movie.
The way his path lead in the movie was also very upsetting because he could have been such a cool character but just wasn't.
And the end of the movie I thought was really bad too.
The final fight scene was just so bad and a terrible conclusion to the movie.
It was executed badly and even the twist was executed badly.
Without a good intro to the twist the twist will be weak.
If I had to explain the twist without spoiling anything, it would go like this; Wolverine: "HELP!" Villain: "Oh by the way, this thing is actually that thing."
You see how it just doesn't fit in?
Anyhow, all in all the movie was super entertaining but had some flaws with characters and execution.
Think of the movie like this; X-Men Orgins: Wolverine + Good Bruce Lee Movie Without Bruce Lee= An OK film.
Score=6.0

Movie Review: Despicable Me 2

One day a boy was strolling through a place of some kind and he stumbles upon a movie theater.
He checks to see what movies hey have out of curiosity.
When he does he sees that there’s a movie called Despicable Me 2 out.
He nods his head and walks away.
Of course he buys a ticket though because next to the movie it said Original Version.

Rating:  PG
Time: 98 min
Director: Pierre Coffin
Stars: Steve Carrel, Kristen Wiig

In Spain, they do not call Despicable Me, Despicable Me.
I don’t know why but instead they call it a different name that I will now translate into English.
In Spain, Despicable Me is called Gru 2: My Favorite Villain.
So they put the main characters name and also they put my favorite villain.
He’s not even a villain in this movie!!!
In the trailer it obviously shows that he is now working for this top-secret anti-villain league.
Well I can’t really blame them for it though they named the movie when the first one came out when he actually was villain.
But to move on to other stuff I have been looking at other people’s opinions on this film and some say that they like the first one better, and surprisingly some say that they like this one better.
It’s only surprising because most of the time, the original movie is better than the sequel.
I can’t think of any exceptions at the top of my head besides that I liked New Moon better than Twilight even though in the end, they both sucked.
But anyways, let’s get on to the review!
So Gru has stopped being a villain and has turned into the really boring normal person. (He still has his minions though!)
And so an anti-villain league hires him and Kristen Wiig together to find a bad guy and take him/her to JUSTICE!
So what was good in the movie?
Like in the first one, the best things about the entire film are the minions.
In the first one they were so funny and now that the producers see that they put a lot more effort into them.
And it works!
In every single scene that the minions are in they crack you up!
They are so funny and stupid and so unique!
The humor was good I guess.
For kids mostly, but I think that a couple of jokes applied to adults.
The art is getting better and better in every animation film.
I really liked the different character personalities in the film.
They were all great to watch and none made me want to strangle them.
But yeah that’s pretty much it.
So what was bad?
I thought that the kids in the movie were way underused.
In the first movie the kids were the movie.
They made the plot thicker and the humor funnier.
In this movie, they barely do anything!
If they were just removed from the film entirely, to me it wouldn’t have made the slightest difference.
Also I thought that solution to problem at the ending was bad and dull.
It was sort of like… “OH NO THERE’S SOMETHING BAD GOING ON!!! BUT DON’T WORRY! LUCKILY ENOUGH BEFORE ANY OF THIS HAPPENED I CREATED THE SOLUTION! YEAH!!!!!!”
That’s pretty much exactly how it goes.
But not just that though!
I also felt that of the big moments of the movie were done poorly but if I said which I would spoil it, so I won’t.
But all in all, the movie is really fun and if you have little kids than you should definitely bring them to this.
Score=7.0

Movie Review: Fast & Furious 6

So as you know, I am in Spain.
And in Spain, movies that are old for us are new in Spain.
So looking at the movies they had, I found a movie that came out a while back for us but that I had not seen yet.
So here we are, let's review Fast & Furious 6.

Rating: PG-13
Time: 130 min
Director: Justin Lin
Stars: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker

Before we start the review let me just mention that because I saw this movie is Spain I also saw it in Spanish.
What that means is NO English!
But that to me doesn't really matter because the whole movie is nothing but action with a few moments of dialogue.
And also because I know enough Spanish I can review this as best as I can and hopefully that will be good enough.
But I think it will be enough because once again the movie is basically just a whole lot of action.
OH!
And let me just say that in the states, this movie is rated PG-13.
But here in Spain they have a entirely different rating for the movie!
They also have a different rating system but once I tell you what they rated it I bet that you'll understand the difference.
So in the states it's PG-13, but in Spain it's 18.
Translating 18 into an American rating, there this movie is rated R.
R!
SERIOUSLY!
This movie is a straight up PG-13 and nothing else!
But anyways let's get to the review of Fast & Furious 6...
SPANISH VERSION!
Well not exactly because I'm not actually reviewing it in Spanish, but I did see it in Spanish, so the result of my term is-
ANYHOW...
The plot of this movie is that the whole crew is back again to help "The Rock" take down this new and super bad crew!
But they're millionaires, why would they want to do this?
Because Vin Diesel's once dead girlfriend returns back from the dead!
It is surprising that they have this many movies for one franchise.
You can't compare it to Harry Potter though because at least Harry Potter knew how many movies it was going to make before it started making all of them.
This franchise is just going to keep on going until people get bored and stop paying to see it.
So what was good in the movie?
Before I talk about that, let me just mention also that I have not seen the 2nd, 3rd or 4th even though I know what happens.
All I have seen is the 1st, 5th and now the 6th and let me just say the new ones are so much better than the first one!!
That is actually a first for me.
Anyhow, getting into the review, let me mention that this movie is all about the cars and the action.
So if they don't have that, than they don't have anything.
Luckily for them, they do have it!
The movies action is big, loud, explosive and just so much fun!
The special effects are amazing and the action scenes are just so entertaining to watch!
And now I must admit that this movie is one of those rare movies out there that I can't really rate seriously because it's a movie that's made for you to have fun.
I can't say anything about the dialogue, (mostly because I saw the movie in Spanish) but only because this movie was made for you to have fun.
Nothing having to do with the fact that I am in Spain.
And even though the action was unbelievably stupid (but also entertaining) I can't really say that was a bad thing.
Even though it was stupid and could never be pulled off in real life without a country blowing up with it, it was still entertaining so I can not say that as a bad thing.
Actually now that I think about it, there is one bad thing I can say about the movie.
My friend back in my hometown had spoiled a lot of the twists for me. (I HATE YOU!!!!!!)
I am not mad at him for that though.
But anyways, the one twist he did not spoil for me, I unfortunately saw coming.
So the whole movie was totally predictable.
But probably not for you, just for me.
So all in all, this review has been a mixed confusing one so to wrap it all up I'll just say that got to this movie if you want to have a really fun time and not think about anything!
Score=7.0
